Bio
Sal Colangelo brings a wealth of experience in both playing and coaching to the Stars Organization. His journey began at Potomac High School in Dumfries, VA, followed by a collegiate career in baseball and football at Virginia Tech from 1991-1995. Afterward, he transitioned into coaching at Christopher Newport University until 1997.
In 1999, Sal embarked on a coaching tenure with the Bethesda Big Train, eventually assuming the role of Manager in 2005. With an impressive 25-year tenure, he has led the Big Train to numerous successes, including multiple Cal Ripken Collegiate League Championships and a national title in 2011. Notably, under his guidance, the team achieved the No. 1 ranking among summer collegiate teams by Perfect Game USA.
Recognized for his contributions, Sal Colangelo was inducted into the Cal Ripken League Hall of Fame in 2019. His coaching prowess is evidenced by the development of 23 MLB players and over 200 professional ballplayers.
Colangelo holds an Undergraduate Degree in Property Management from Virginia Tech, a Masters Degrees from Johns Hopkins in Administration and the United States Sports Academy in Athletic Administration. Currently, he serves as the Activities Director at C.D Hylton High School in Woodbridge, VA, residing in Lorton, Virginia, with his wife Alison and their daughters, Emma and Abigail.
